Classroom goals

While people look for wedding or home inspiration, I am busily working towards my 'Classroom goals'. Decorating my room provides a way for me to de-stress and helps build a safe and fun environment. The students are respectful in this environment. There is hardly any rubbish left behind, the desk and the floor is always clean and there are no missing resources.

Some of my inspirations (from 'Relief Teaching Ideas Community' Facebook group and from TYPO):

  1. I absolutely enjoy your blog! Your room looks amazing. Can I ask, who is paying for all the furniture and awesome stationary items? My room is currently a dump (I just started at the school) and it is filthy, and I am trying to clear it up as I go, but I would love a week to just declutter. Students don't respect it, and I know they don't like the look of it (I don't!!). Thanks for sharing!!

    1. Hi there,

Thanks for visiting. I wish there was funding with my Art classroom. I have been lucky with free donations from people that I know i.e. Contact paper to cover the ugly walls and tables. I also have tissue paper, laminating sleeves from a friend as her workplace decided to dispose off the extra weight.

Being an Art teacher it is easier for me to have access to colour paper, hot glue gun etc. I also get fast finishers to help with making a few things. The students love it. I normally give this task to junior students so that the senior students can focus on their body of work.

The only funding, I ever received was for another room. I applied for funding as I wanted to transform one of my faculty rooms into a 21st century learning space. It was used to purchase new furniture, paint and accessories. This was done through the equity funding program at school.

Please feel free to have a look at my latest two post for a better understanding.

      Thank you once again.

    2. I forgot to mention...always try and get some donations if possible. Let family, friends, co workers know that you are happy to take any resources. Otherwise, try to de-clutter your house, you might find things that are suitable for the classroom.

If you look behind my contact walls and desks, there are years of abuse engraved onto the surface.

Take baby steps and get some students to help with decorating. If I get to school early - before 7:45am, I grab a few kids to help with decorating. I just have to remember to reward them with virtual rewards points or a small reward that I have i.e. lollies, stationary etc. Fast finishers also provide a great pair of helping hands.

      Good luck!
