DIY Teacher Part 2

I have a bug! A creative bug attack. I've been learning to give myself some personal time to create. I enjoy being able to make something out of scratch. Last weekend, I made a number of hairbands and decorated a few canvas shoes. If you would like to read more about it, please head to: DIY Teacher I'm feeling a bit sick after the 3 day camp. Instead of forcing myself to mark, I made a polymer clay necklace, a pair of earrings and a couple keyring.

Year 8 Camp

Image
I was just came back from a school camp. I really enjoyed the 3 days of supervision and activities with my group of students. The camp was arranged for Year 8 students. We went to the The Tops at Stanwell. It was a three day camp with 84 students and four staff members. Our school booked out the Waratah area with the boys and girls cabin separated by buildings. We completed a variety of activities. The students were divided into groups of roughly 20. Each group also had an instructor. On my first day I completed the 'Vertical Cluster' and 'Giant Swing' with my students. On the second day I tried 'Abseiling' for the first time in my life. I LOVED IT. I managed to climb down a cliff. I also did a bit of archery but ran out of time for the high ropes challenge. On the last day, my group played survivors! It required good team work skills. I also squeezed in some bush walking time with two other teachers.

Toilet paper roll craft

Image
I've been collecting toilet rolls since early June! I recently asked my Year 8 helpers to cut all the toilet paper rolls into smaller pieces. Today, I set a new challenge for my Year 6 students (I see them once a week). They were asked to build anything with the pieces. Some spent the period planning and prepping, others got straight into gluing. They will have one more lesson to make their design. The best group will win a prize.

If you follow me on Instagram (missartofteaching), you will notice that I've been enjoying a crafty weekend. I've purchased a few pair of shoes from Kmart. They are great canvases for painting! I also purchased 15 x modelling clay to make polymer clay jewellery. I'm so heavily invested that I even purchased a portable oven for this new hobby. I also purchased a lot of fabric during Lincraft's 40% off sale and made a few hair bands.
