CANVA website

Image
Since last year, I have been using Canva to make quick poster designs and even performance tickets. Canva is a free website that allows users to make quick and simple designs. They have templates ready for users to create designs for web or print. I use it to promote things that are happening around the school since I am a Facebook admin. I tend to do it mostly for my faculty. I may revisit Canva to make a few posters for my hamburger analogy. I am missing visuals to make my resource more powerful.   This is also a great website to use with primary school or high school students. They can use it to create presentations, flyers, posters, invitations and so on. You can edit photos, add text, elements, stickers, borders and frames. A few things like stickers can cost money but that is if you choose to use specific designs. Above: An example of the working space on Canva. Meeting Students

Image
I had a terrific day meeting new students. There were a lot of new names to learn but it helped by repeating their names and assigning them with a 'number' for the iHelp chart (classroom job distributor). I also encouraged class discussions by pulling out their names, which I had written on paddle pop sticks.  I am so glad to have made some very positive relationships with a number of students last year. Today, I asked two year 12 students to help me put up the 'Happy Notes' backdrop. They are students who I have always stop to have a chat but don't actually teach them for any subjects. Sometimes moments like these make it even more special. I appreciate the time that I get (if I do get it) to speak to students in the morning. A simple wave and hello helps to brighten up their morning. Bribing them with Vivos (School virtual rewards system) also work! Above: Happy notes wall. Need to fill up the back wall with more Art related posters. I didn't actu...

Catching up

Image
I missed a post yesterday as I was at a wedding. I did manage to do a bit of work in between the ceremony and reception time. Here is the result from a couple of hours: Above: I cut out numbers and wrote an instruction sheet on how to use the 'iHelp' classroom distributor poster. Purpose of activity: Students will be assigned with a number from the start of the year. Random numbers will be taken out and attached to the app icons to distribute classroom jobs. Explanation of each classroom job is explained on the 'iHelp' poster. The numbers will be attached by Velcro. All items laminated to prolong its life. Hopefully, this helps students to take ownership and responsibility of the classroom. Also gives a sense of teamwork. Above: Back wall decoration with instructions.
