Inside the Art room

Visual Arts Year 6 Term 2 My high school offers transition lessons for our local primary school. Every Tuesday afternoon, our local primary school brings over their Year 6 students. The students are split off into groups to try a few taster classes. It helps prepare them for high school as they learn about the school structure and routines. Inside my classroom, they have been working together to make the 'What Lifts You' mural. Every student contributes by making a feather design. Resources that can benefit Year 6 students: Instructions:  What Lifts You Year 7 Term 1 Every year we start off with a Self-portrait unit with the Year 7 students. I decided to spice things up and use Snapchat filters on my students. We used the dog filter on Snapchat as it still allowed a reasonable amount of realism to be portrayed in their artworks. Students' artworks are now on display in the CAPA corridors. Resources that can benefit Year 7 students: Instruction...

Year 6 visit

Every Tuesday, the Year 6 students from our local primary school come over for the transition classes. It helps prepare them for high school as they learn about the school structure and routines. Inside my classroom, we are all working together to make the 'What Lifts You' mural. Each student contributes by making a feather design. We have ALMOST completed one wing. Instead of making one gigantic pair of wings we are focusing on making two pairs. Above: I have some teacher helpers in my classroom. During Tuesday afternoon, most of our high school students are engaged in sports activities. However, they can volunteer their time to help with the running of Year 6 classes. They have been working so well that I have rewarded them with a character box building activity. No instructions were given and they had to work out how to build the character on their own. I am loving this Year 6 class and hoping to have them next year in my Year 7 Visual Art cl...

What lifts you

Image
During Tuesday afternoon, Year 6 students from our local primary school come over for some taster subjects in Visual Arts, Languages, Computers and Science. I really enjoy having the students over, as they are very eager to make art. We are starting the 'What Lifts You' mural. The finished mural will be taken back to the primary school as a display. Materials needed: -Photocopied feather template on A4 colour paper. I made 200 copies as I will have three class rotations. -Class set of instructions to make feather designs. I also laminated a copy and left it on the white board. -Class set of pencils. -Class set of posca pens (arcylic paint in a marker). -Class set of scissors. Inspiration from: I also tried something new. Every time a student was good they received a slip to put their name on it. They could have multiple slips. Students would then take their slip and put it into the class jar. At the end of the lesson, I draw our two prizes (one ...

DIY wall

Image
The back wall in my classroom is work in progress. One side is filled with 'Happy notes' from Year 7-11 students and t he other side is starting a completely new trend...memes by students. I love the DIY factor and how it is a group effort to make the wall look nicer.  I am also planning to start a mural when the Year 6 students come over for their art lessons. Every Tuesday afternoo n, the local primary school sends students over for lessons. I was quite excited to find a large black cloth while cleaning my room over the holidays. I am planning to create a mural with big wings on top of it. The inspiration is from 'The What Lifts You Campaign' by Kelsey Montague. Next project: Adaptations that I found online:
