Free resources: Slideshare

I have previously recommended a few websites that are great for teachers. Please check out my 'Canva' blog post from April.  Canva is a free website that allows users to make quick and simple designs (posters, invitations etc). They have templates ready for users to create designs for web or print. Today, I will be recommending 'Slideshare'. This is a free website and has been a life saver for my role as a classroom teacher and as a year 7 adviser. It is a website where you can find presentations (PowerPoints, PDF files), infographics, documents and more. The information is shared by teachers and experts from the field.  Most of the files can be downloaded.  I will still advise that you go through the slides and 'edit' the information to suit your classroom. Some files do not have a download option, but you can still show your class the PowerPoint if you log onto Slideshare. I plan to show this 'Study, Do It Well' to my Year 7 cohort. I have a y...

CANVA website

Since last year, I have been using Canva to make quick poster designs and even performance tickets. Canva is a free website that allows users to make quick and simple designs. They have templates ready for users to create designs for web or print. I use it to promote things that are happening around the school since I am a Facebook admin. They can use it to create presentations, flyers, posters, invitations and so on. You can edit photos, add text, elements, stickers, borders and frames. A few things like stickers can cost money but that is if you choose to use specific designs. Above: An example of the working space on Canva. On the left are the design templates, on the right is your canvas to freely move things around and change ...

Helping students

Image
All my students are getting ready for the assessment period. Senior students have their half-yearly examination in the next two weeks. My junior students also need to submit their art case study assignment soon. During this busy period, there are always students who can benefit from the extra help. I usually book the learning centre if students need one on one assistance. The learning centre is where students can go during class time to complete assignments with the assistance of support teachers. Last year I made a 'Homework Centre' poster using the website Canva. I shared this poster on the school Facebook page to remind everyone about this free service. It is useful for students who may not have computers or wifi at home. I also verbally recommend this to students who may want extra help with homework and assignments. There is always a classroom teacher and a few Year 12 Student Leaders available to help students. Often the Year 12 students have experience in completi...
