Rock Painting Stall

Image
The rock painting stall was a success! I ran the stall during Multicultural day. The purpose of the stall was to get as many rocks painted for the school decorative rock pathway. There was a huge turnout from the school community. We had students, teachers, staff and parents/carers joining in.  To prepare for the day, I... 1. Asked for donations from Flower Power and Bunnings. They donated rocks and a can of natural sealer (to protect the paint from rain, hail and shine!) 2. Sought funding to purchase permanent markers, posca markers and paint. 3. Asked Year 7-10 students in my classes to wash, dry and paint a based layer using exterior house paint. 4. Sorted out the rocks by colour. 5. Made teacher samples and asked every student in my class to make a few designs. 6. Advertised about the rock painting stall on the school Facebook, school newsletter, on assembly, Year 7 meeting and through word of mouth. 7. Asked Year 7 students to help make promotional posters and instru...

Rock project progress

Image
During the Term 2 holidays, I started prepping for the 'Rock Colourful Pathway Project'. My Deputy Principal read up an article about an elementary school teacher at Indiana who started a project where every student painted a rock to make up a bright and colourful pathway. She kindly suggested that this might be a good Project Based Learning project. This project has gone bigger and it is now a whole school project. It is one of the Positive Behaviour for Learning initiative. Every student, teacher and staff are encouraged to paint a rock. We want to send out creative and positive vibes throughout the school and local community. At the moment I am trying to prepare for a 'Rock' stall for the school's Heritage (Multicultural) day so that I can get some parents and carers involved with the painting process. Local businesses have assisted by donating rocks! Flower Power and Bunnings are our biggest supporters. I am blessed to be working in a community where busi...

Where have I been?

Image
I usually try to blog daily if not a few times a week. I have been preoccupied with: -Preparing for a 'Rock' colourful pathway by having a go first hand. -Going to Kmart, Target, Ikea and Bunnings. Purchasing items for myself and to make my teaching life easier. -Making resources for my Year 11 Visual Arts class. -Making decorations for my classroom: My classroom is waiting for me to work on it. I want to slowly change it to a turquoise theme. And I need to de-clutter!

Ultimate teacher storage box

Image
I have been taking my classes out due to the broken heater in my classroom. Sometimes it can be difficult juggling all the resources. I do have helpers but I want a neater system. I found a solution... $5 Aud storage boxes from the garage section at Bunnings.  I love how the case is clear so it's easy to see what is inside. It is quite generous in size (space and length). The dividers can be removed as well allowing flexibility in the way you may want to store specific items. With one of the boxes, I can stock it up with 1 x pastel pencil set, 2 x watercolour pencil sets, 1 x pencil set, 1 x graphite pencil set, 1 x posca pen set and some random pens. The pastel pencils, watercolour pencils and pens are from my own home collection. The rest are school property. I think teaching is the only job where you steal from your home! I have shared this teacher storage option on the 'Relief Teaching Ideas Community' Facebook group. It will make the lives of teachers easier as th...
