Year 11 Body of Works

Image
Today my Year 11 students submitted their Body of Work for marking. I wanted them to focus on 'presenting' their artworks. I purposely booked the meeting room as my classroom is too busy with a lack of wall space. Students were encouraged to move their artworks into the meeting room at the start of recess. A lot of students spent an entire period setting up their artworks and getting their Visual Arts Process Diary ready for marking. I spent another two periods marking with a co-worker. Discussions were formed and we talked about how I can support my students through to the HSC. Marks still need to be finalised and I plan to spend my weekend writing constructive feedback. Here are a few photos from today:

Inside the Art room

Visual Arts Year 6 Term 2 My high school offers transition lessons for our local primary school. Every Tuesday afternoon, our local primary school brings over their Year 6 students. The students are split off into groups to try a few taster classes. It helps prepare them for high school as they learn about the school structure and routines. Inside my classroom, they have been working together to make the 'What Lifts You' mural. Every student contributes by making a feather design. I decided to spice things up and use Snapchat filters on my students. We used the dog filter on Snapchat as it still allowed a reasonable amount of realism to be portrayed in their artworks. Students' artworks are now on display in the CAPA corridors. Resources that can benefit Year 7 students: Instruction...

Inspirations for teaching

Image
I'm always on Facebook and Instagram but for the right reasons. I love looking at what other teachers are doing. They become my source of inspiration. The purpose of my blog is to reflect on my own teaching practice and to share resources. Some ideas of mine are original and others have been borrowed or modified to suit my own classroom. There is so much to learn from one another. I'll use my lesson from today as an example of how I used what I learnt from social media. Year 11 (Senior students) Visual Arts: FIRST INSPIRATION  I joined the 'High School TAB' American Facebook page recently (just yesterday) and even though the system in America is different to Australia, I was still able to get A LOT of ideas! First, I found a blog post about 'Creating a High School Schedule and Culture in My TAB Classroom'. The teacher shared her methods of organising her lesson structures in advance. I was interested in how she experiments with assessment to help push...

Class mascot

Image
I added a new class mascot into my classroom. She's going to help keep an eye out for me. My Wicked Witch from Wizard of Oz may have an unhealthy habit of eating naughty children. Above: Pop Vinyl figure. Students have already started asking me where they can purchase one. I started taking 'Snapchat' photos of my Year 7 Visual Arts students. The photos will be used for their portrait drawing unit. Students will be using the grid drawing system to break down a bigger image into manageable parts. By using the Snapchat filters, it makes this unit of work more appealing to them. It also makes the drawing task a bit easier since there are also cartoon aspects to it. I have included some eye stickers over their photos to protect the identity of my students. When I print their pictures out, there will only be the dog filter. Students had a blast taking photos. Above: Photos of students using 'Snapchat' filters. I have also been taking photos fo my stu...
