Change/reflection

Change is inevitable and as teachers we need to be flexible and positive about new ideas and approaches to teaching. Teaching is a challenging job where we need to know our content and find ways to make learning fun. Lately, I have been asking students about how they feel about the subject and what we can do as a faculty to make learning more accessible to them. This has led me back to my blog and I am now sitting here thinking of new ways to deliver content: 1. Make learning more relevant. This year we have been looking at Environmental Issues and Street Art with Stage 5 (Year 9/10). However, compared to previous year, this particular cohort seem to find the projects less engaging. My faculty plans to create four shorter projects for 2020. We need to provide them with topics/issues that are more RELEVANT to them. Make them interested and CURIOUS. Give opportunities for students to generate their own research questions and search for explanations. 2. Make learning clear. Student...

Year 7 students

Image
I've been really enjoying my time teaching Year 7 students. They seem to be much settle this year and love my classroom systems. My rules are pretty consistent: 1. Line up in two lines. 2. Place bags at the back of the room. 3. Sit down and look at the classroom jobs chart. 4. Students who are assign to taking out Visual Arts Process Diaries get up to pass out the journals. 5. Classroom helpers take out the laminated photographs, white pencils, posca markers and oil crayons. 6. Start work. 7. Classroom timer (another student job) reminds class to pack up 5 mins before the bell. 8. Resources are returned back to the right location by the helpers. They have only recently earn the priviledge of listening to music during class time. I even brought in my bluetooth speakers to play songs for students who prefer to listen to my songs. A message from a student

I informed some of my students about this blog. One of the students wanted to include something small here: My Experience In Miss Kwan's Class For the past 3 years, I have been lucky enough to have Miss Kwan as an art teacher. We have laughed together and we have argued, but all in all, we have had a great time and I couldn't have asked for a better teacher. Miss always has new and creative ways to teach her classes. From the first day of year 7, to now I have seen every reward system you could imagine. Day in and day out, Miss Kwan takes time and money of her own, and puts it toward students and our learning environment. Although we may not always show it, we are all very grateful for the extra effort Miss Kwan puts in for us.  In class we share, laughs, smiles and jokes and I hope that I am lucky enough to share my art experience with Miss Kwan again next year.  On behalf of the class and myself, I would like to say thank you for bein...
