Pairing students up strategically

The suggested methods can be adapted into any classroom or year groups: This morning I took out several suits from an old deck of playing cards. I proceeded to cut them in half.  I passed out one-half to every  Year 11 student who walked through the door.  They were then instructed to find the other half.  This method allows them to break away from their friendship groups or from attempting the paper alone. You can carefully pair students up if you want by making sure you separate the same suit from 'close' friends. You could also pair a stronger student up with a student who may need the extra help. A good memory is important so you can distribute the cards carefully without it being obvious. For me, 'destiny' works out fine!  Once they were in their pairs, I gave them a copy of either Question 1, 2 or 3 of section 1 of a preliminary exam paper. Inspirations for teaching

I'm always on Facebook and Instagram but for the right reasons. I love looking at what other teachers are doing. They become my source of inspiration. The purpose of my blog is to reflect on my own teaching practice and to share resources. Some ideas of mine are original and others have been borrowed or modified to suit my own classroom. There is so much to learn from one another. I'll use my lesson from today as an example of how I used what I learnt from social media. I've had an extremely busy day of running around. First stop was Aldi, then Bunnings, then Office works, then back to Aldi (to get a few more things) and finally the Reject Shop. Here are some purchases and what I plan to do with them: Above: Items for myself. I'm in love with the label maker. I've never had one and its so much fun! Top row from Aldi, bottom row from Office Works. Above: Aldi stationary as prizes. The price range was from $99c - $3.99 per item. Above: I went back to Aldi to purchase more prizes ($2.99 each) and the large pink bucket ($2.99). The clear containers are all from Reject shop. The large one cost $16 and each jar is $4 each.
