Decorating Bug

Image
This is the aftermath of visiting Kmart... I love decorating my classroom and Kmart makes my job REALLY fun! Sometimes I go overboard. You can find most of the items in the 'Party' section at Kmart. The Unicorn pom poms is only $2 Aud. The big 12 piece decoration pack is only $12 Aud!!! This is cheaper than buying individual pom poms for $3 Aud each. The necklaces are $6 Aud each and come with a pair of earrings. I saw on my Instagram feed that you can easily convert them into cute teacher lanyards by attaching large lobster clips or keyring holders. The mini blackboard is only $5 Aud and comes with two chalks. The board is going to be for motivational quotes.  The pink table cloths are $2 Aud each and are actually used for covering tables. They make a great backdrop for walls.  I feel like going back to Kmart just to purchase these lovely trays:

Kindness

Kindness At the start of the year, I explained to all my classes that the theme of my classroom is ‘kindness’. This theme does not stay contained in the walls of the classroom but in students’ process of speaking and their part in bringing kindness towards others. At my High School, we do not tolerate deliberate hurtful behaviour. Instead we encourage the use of kind words as this creates happiness for others and ourselves. We must remember that we have a great power when we speak. When we perform an act of kindness it can uplift others and when we choose to deliberately hurt others we can make someone feel really bad. 1.        Think before you speak. 2.        Use words to uplift others. I often ask students to think of things that make them smile. I encourage them to grab a sticky note and write it down. I am hoping to fill my ‘happy notes’ board at the back of my room.  On another note: My c...

Getting ready for school

Image
School starts tomorrow for teachers. I have already made two trips to school in the past two weeks. Each time I look like I am going camping for an extended amount of time. Bags, bags, bags and more BAGSSSSS.... In prep for school, I have done two Aldi runs during their 'Back to School' sale. I am in love with the new rose gold range (magazine holders, pencil holders and rubbish bin). From my latest Aldi trip, I also bought a 2 in 1 office cutter and a large calender desk planner. Above: I have cleaned out my desk and put in my new purchases from ALDI. Tomorrow I am doing a presentation on 'Classroom Management'. This is one of the reasons why I started my blog and how I got interested in DIY projects. Here are some pictures of how I am getting my classroom management in place and making my classroom a tiny bit more inviting. I live and breath inside an old demountable and plan to give it a more refreshed look throughout the year. Above: I wonde...

Catching up

I missed a post yesterday as I was at a wedding. I did manage to do a bit of work in between the ceremony and reception time. Here is the result from a couple of hours: Above: I cut out numbers and wrote an instruction sheet on how to use the 'iHelp' classroom distributor poster. Purpose of activity: Students will be assigned with a number from the start of the year. Random numbers will be taken out and attached to the app icons to distribute classroom jobs. Explanation of each classroom job is explained on the 'iHelp' poster. The numbers will be attached by Velcro. All items laminated to prolong its life. Hopefully, this helps students to take ownership and responsibility of the classroom. Also gives a sense of teamwork. Above: Back wall decoration with instructions. Above: Continuing my kindness theme for this year.  Above:  A simple laminated 'room changes' poster. It will be attached to the outside of the class...
