Our high school offers transition lessons for our local primary school. Every Tuesday afternoon, the local primary brings over their Year 6 students. The students are split off into groups to try a few taster classes. This year I decided to do something different and went with a collaborating design between students. Please check out my previous post in regards to the 'What Lifts You' mural design. What Lifts You   This class activity was very easy to handle. I was given 5 lessons with this class but we pretty much finished by the third lesson. On the fourth lesson, I started giving them another activity to do. I will be getting two new groups and plan to have 3 pairs of wings by the end of the rotations. The primary school students will be taking it back to their primary school to have it on display. I hope students enjoyed working on it and I want them to be proud of their team effort. I'll miss them! Hope to see most of them next year.

Year 6 visit

Every Tuesday, the Year 6 students from our local primary school come over for the transition classes. It helps prepare them for high school as they learn about the school structure and routines. Instead of making one gigantic pair of wings we are focusing on making two pairs. Above: I have some teacher helpers in my classroom. During Tuesday afternoon, most of our high school students are engaged in sports activities. However, they can volunteer their time to help with the running of Year 6 classes. They have been working so well that I have rewarded them with a character box building activity. No instructions were given and they had to work out how to build the character on their own. I am loving this Year 6 class and hoping to have them next year in my Year 7 Visual Art cl...

During Tuesday afternoon, Year 6 students from our local primary school come over for some taster subjects in Visual Arts, Languages, Computers and Science. I really enjoy having the students over, as they are very eager to make art. We are starting the 'What Lifts You' mural. The finished mural will be taken back to the primary school as a display. Materials needed: -Photocopied feather template on A4 colour paper. I made 200 copies as I will have three class rotations. -Class set of instructions to make feather designs. I also laminated a copy and left it on the white board. -Class set of pencils. -Class set of posca pens (arcylic paint in a marker). -Class set of scissors. Inspiration from: I also tried something new. Every time a student was good they received a slip to put their name on it. They could have multiple slips. Students would then take their slip and put it into the class jar. At the end of the lesson, I draw our two prizes (one ...
