Free resources: Slideshare

I have previously recommended a few websites that are great for teachers. Please check out my 'Canva' blog post from April.  Canva is a free website that allows users to make quick and simple designs (posters, invitations etc). They have templates ready for users to create designs for web or print. Today, I will be recommending 'Slideshare'. This is a free website and has been a life saver for my role as a classroom teacher and as a year 7 adviser. It is a website where you can find presentations (PowerPoints, PDF files), infographics, documents and more. The information is shared by teachers and experts from the field.  Most of the files can be downloaded.  I will still advise that you go through the slides and 'edit' the information to suit your classroom. Some files do not have a download option, but you can still show your class the PowerPoint if you log onto Slideshare. I plan to show this 'Study, Do It Well' to my Year 7 cohort. I have a y...

CANVA website

Since last year, I have been using Canva to make quick poster designs and even performance tickets. Canva is a free website that allows users to make quick and simple designs. They have templates ready for users to create designs for web or print. I use it to promote things that are happening around the school since I am a Facebook admin. I tend to do it mostly for my faculty. I may revisit Canva to make a few posters for my hamburger analogy. I am missing visuals to make my resource more powerful.   This is also a great website to use with primary school or high school students. They can use it to create presentations, flyers, posters, invitations and so on. You can edit photos, add text, elements, stickers, borders and frames. A few things like stickers can cost money but that is if you choose to use specific designs. Above: An example of the working space on Canva. On the left are the design templates, on the right is your canvas to freely move things around and change ...

Bullying

Image
Today I presented to the Year 7 cohort a presentation about bullying. It covered important information about bullying from the perspective of the bully and the victim. Strategies were also discussed with students. I also tried to give them examples from my own life. I shared with them my stories of being a bully and also my experiences on the other end of the stick - being a victim. It was a long presentation and it was good to see that students understood the importance of making the right choices and how to use their power of speech to uplift others rather than to pull others down.
