DIY Teacher

If you follow me on Instagram (missartofteaching), you will notice that I've been enjoying a crafty weekend. I've purchased a few pair of shoes from Kmart. They are great canvases for painting! I also purchased 15 x modelling clay to make polymer clay jewellery. I'm so heavily invested that I even purchased a portable oven for this new hobby. I also purchased a lot of fabric during Lincraft's 40% off sale and made a few hair bands.

Teaching Year 11 students

Image
I know it is only the start of the term BUT time flies! I am trying to prepare my students for their Yearly Examination, which consists of short responses and long responses (essays). I recently received a set of textbooks from my head teacher. It has been so useful to prepare my theory lessons and to help students formulate their answers. If you teach senior visual arts classes, I suggest the Senior Artwise Visual Arts 11-12 Second edition. It can be purchased as a hard or digital copy. Every week I plan on introducing students to a new artist. For every artist, the textbooks cover the art marking practice and provides examples of artworks. The best part about this textbook is the additional artist statements (quotes) and written responses by previous students. I also love the questions regarding frames and conceptual framework. To prepare students for their essay, I came up with something cheesy - hamburger essay. In the holidays, I went to Kmart to buy a hamburger notepad. I want...

Where have I been?

I usually try to blog daily if not a few times a week. I have been preoccupied with: -Preparing for a 'Rock' colourful pathway by having a go first hand. -Going to Kmart, Target, Ikea and Bunnings. Purchasing items for myself and to make my teaching life easier. -Making resources for my Year 11 Visual Arts class. -Making decorations for my classroom: My classroom is waiting for me to work on it. I want to slowly change it to a turquoise theme. And I need to de-clutter!

Teacher holidays

What do teachers do in the school holidays? -Relax and c atch up with friends -Resist temptation to visit stores (JUST JOKING!) -Do school work For the last two days I have visited: -Kmart -Target -Big W -Kikki.K -Aldi -Typo  -Tk Maxx -and many more. I can't switch my teacher mind off and always seem to be considering what I can do to make my classroom look and function better. I'm a teacher who enjoys organisation. I also love working on my own living space.  I made an earring holder using a Kmart $6 storage grid. Shoes seem to be my latest obsession. Four new pairs came home with me. I'm excited about the new comfortable work shoes! Above: Teacher shopping! Above: I love these storage systems but unfortunately the colours don't work for me. Above: The storage systems are from Tk Maxx and prices range from $16- 35 Aud. Above: Cute prints! Above: This was $20 but not necessary in my classroom as I organise my resou...

Teacher supplies: Kmart VS Target

Image
Today, I decided to check out both Kmart and Target. Both played around with rose gold and had a similar pricing point.  Target focused on a marble x rose gold fusion. It is part of their Victorian rose gold collection. Price points started from $3-$10 Aud. The pricing seems quite fair and reminds me of the Aldi back to school sale earlier in the year. Aldi had staplers and tape dispenser around the same price point $8-10 Aud. They also had rose gold magazine dividers and pen holders. Kmart's rose gold collection played more with polka dots and the brown bag look. I quite like the folder except the material isn't suitable for wear and tear. It will get dirty quite easily. I love the long notepad that is designed to be placed beneath the keyboard. It retails for $3 Aud and it is a weekly planner. Overall, I think Target's marble x rose gold theme looks more sophisticated.  Although Kmart was a bit weak with their rose gold stationary selection, it made up f...

Decorating Bug

This is the aftermath of visiting Kmart... I love decorating my classroom and Kmart makes my job REALLY fun! Sometimes I go overboard. You can find most of the items in the 'Party' section at Kmart. The Unicorn pom poms is only $2 Aud. The big 12 piece decoration pack is only $12 Aud!!! This is cheaper than buying individual pom poms for $3 Aud each. The necklaces are $6 Aud each and come with a pair of earrings. I saw on my Instagram feed that you can easily convert them into cute teacher lanyards by attaching large lobster clips or keyring holders. The mini blackboard is only $5 Aud and comes with two chalks. The board is going to be for motivational quotes.  The pink table cloths are $2 Aud each and are actually used for covering tables. They make a great backdrop for walls.  I feel like going back to Kmart just to purchase these lovely trays:
